You compete on customer service. I wouldn't use 1&1 if it was the last company on Earth. Those who know won't consider 1&1 and as far as those who don't, you have convince them you have the best customer service in the world.

I have heard lots of complaints that their customer service is subpar.

Another thing to consider is percieved value, alot of people won't go with the 1&1 $2.99 because its so cheap. Customers will think its not reliable because its so cheap.
